Visiting and spending quality time with the children, as well as providing certain basic daily essentials is our way of giving back to our local community. One day a week we provide free lunches to locals and those in need, from outside our restaurant. Our staff Volunteer their time to prepare the food and distribute it every Monday between 11am and 12pm. We also provide food supplies and basic goods to a number of orphanages and once again our staff volunteer their time to buy and distribute the goods to orphanages around the Khanh Hoa province. Our dedicated staff go to the local markets and buy the food supplies, in consulatation with the different orphanages, to ensure we are buying the most needed goods every week. The food is distributed to the many children but is also distributed to the poorer communities in and around Khanh Hoa.
Our school scholarship program, now in its second year, provides school tuition fees for about 200 children at the various orphanages and we have made a commitment to all involved, that our scholarship program will provide scholastic support for a minimum of 10 years, regardless of whether Lanterns is around or not. We have stressed to all the children and teachers, that we are working with them for the long term benefit of the children and not just to be here to help for 1 or 2 years.
We also run an annual Children’s Day, where we bring together all of the children from all of the orphanages we work with, for a special day of fun and interaction, with ebveryone. They compete with each other in games and activities and share some very special memories together. It is normally held towards the end of March or early April and we hope that the community will get behind us in the coming years to support the Children’s Day. If you are visiting Nha Trang during this time, it would be our pleasure for you to join us and get involved with the children.
These are just a few of the things we do with the local people of Nha Trang and Khanh Hoa. In total, we work with a twelve local orphanages and schools, to provide basic food supplies, school tuition and other community support as required and requested by the different orphanages/charity schools. We strongly believe that giving the children this opportunity is what they truly deserve.
If you are interested in more information on the orphanage or our association with them, please feel free to contact us. We hope to see you soon at Lanterns
